Here & There
by Laurén Brady

The works are collages, both literally and metaphorically through the fragmentation, disjunction, and amalgamation of visual information. I observe and respond to what is present in a place and what is absent. I begin by combining physical findings such as paper scraps and fabric with paint and pastel on panel. In Italy, while working in plein-air, a sense of nostalgia conjured memories, emotions, and imagined stories that filtered over the layers of paint. These paintings exist in a liminal space, wavering between factual expressions of place and fictitious narratives. They fall within the present day and the yesterday—melding imagery of here and there.
