Beyond Appearances
Painting and Photography by Michael Maurer Smith

Please join us for the Opening Reception
Friday,  May 12
from 5:30–8pm
Light refreshments will be served.

As a painter and photographer Michael Maurer Smith understands that art derives from the process of abstracting—making decisions about what to include, exclude, render and emphasize—he knows that his photographs and paintings are physical manifestations of his choices, feelings and preferences.
This work reveals how his sensibilities as a painter and photographer form his artistic vision. The camera is a means for him to find form, beauty and meaning outside himself. Painting permits him to express his inner feelings, recording the trace of his emotions and thinking on canvas.

Potter's Choice
Selected works by members of the Potter's Guild of Greater Lansing.

Reception on Sunday, MAY 14 from 1-4pm

In 1969, a group of local residents who shared a passion for ceramics, combined their resources and energy to form the Greater Lansing Potters’ Guild. Approaching their 50th anniversary, the Guild has evolved into a fully-equipped ceramics studio offering classes, workshops and demonstrations for its students and members. The Guild brings ceramics to the community with demonstrations at local events, awards of scholarships, and contributions of work to Empty Bowls events.

In July and August we'll have two exhibits:
Women with Knives—prints from the Printmaker's Collective
Working Women Artists—work by members of this long-standing local organization
